The fuselage, uniquely designed in this novel way, was developed to accommodate the two powerful tandem rotors and the oversized propellers. As a result of the two rotors and the strong aerodynamic structure, the H-21 became an effective and reliable “workhorse”, able to successfully perform the most demanding transport tasks in a multitude of environments. Widely used by the U.S. Army since the early ‘50s, it was also deployed during the Vietnam war to transport troops and tactical supplies from 1961 onwards. The helicopter proved to be robust and reliable, even during ground support missions where the ‘Gunship’ version was armed with cannons under the nose or through the side doors. Model Dim. 33,3 cmBox Dim. 373 x 241 x 60 mmFIGURE NON INCLUSEL’hélicoptère H-21 Shawnee est surtout connu pour son surnom de « la banane volante », qui dérive de l’angle particulier vers le haut du fuselage arrière. Le fuselage, conçu de manière unique, a été développé pour accueillir les deux puissants rotors tandem et les hélices surdimensionnées. Grâce aux deux rotors et à la structure aérodynamique solide, le H-21 est devenu un « bourreau de travail » efficace et fiable, capable d’effectuer avec succès les tâches de transport les plus exigeantes dans une multitude d’environnements. Largement utilisé par l’armée américaine depuis le début des années 50, il a également été déployé pendant la guerre du Vietnam pour transporter des troupes et des fournitures tactiques à partir de 1961. L’hélicoptère s’est avéré robuste et fiable, même lors de missions d’appui au sol où la version « Gunship » était armée de canons sous le nez ou à travers les portes latérales.
