Mercedes-Benz, often simply known as Mercedes, is a German luxury automobile brand with a rich history of engineering excellence, innovation, and performance.

Mercedes-Benz traces its roots back to 1886, when Karl Benz developed the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, widely recognized as the world’s first automobile. This marked the birth of the automobile as we know it today.

Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach, who were working independently from Benz, created the first high-speed engine that would go on to power automobiles. The two companies, Benz & Cie and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG), eventually merged in 1926 to form Mercedes-Benz.

The name “Mercedes” comes from Mercedes Jellinek, the daughter of Emil Jellinek, a prominent automobile dealer and financier who was involved in the early success of Daimler vehicles. The name “Benz” represents Karl Benz, the inventor of the first gasoline-powered automobile.

Mercedes-Benz has a rich motorsport heritage, with notable involvement in Formula 1, DTM (German Touring Cars), and sports car racing. The brand’s Mercedes-AMG division is dedicated to high-performance vehicles and has created some of the most thrilling cars on the road.

Mercedes-AMG was born in the 1960s when two engineers, Klaus Ludwig and Ernst Wöhr, began modifying Mercedes cars for racing. Since then, AMG has become synonymous with high-performance, producing cars that blend luxury and track-ready performance.

Mercedes-Benz’s Formula 1 team, known as Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, is one of the most dominant teams in modern F1 history, with multiple drivers’ championships and constructors’ championships.
