Racing Point was a Formula 1 team that existed between 2018 and 2020. It was the rebranded identity of the Force India team, which had been a staple in Formula 1 for many years. Racing Point is notable for its ties to the well-known Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll, who helped purchase the team and bring it back into competitive form, eventually leading to the name change.

2018: Due to financial difficulties, Vijay Mallya sold Force India to a consortium led by Lawrence Stroll, a Canadian businessman, and father of Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll. This led to the team being rebranded as Racing Point for the 2018 season.

The Racing Point team was essentially a continuation of the Force India setup, retaining the same chassis and technical staff, but with significant upgrades, particularly thanks to the influx of capital from Lawrence Stroll’s consortium.

Racing Point initially found success, often battling with teams like Renault and McLaren in the midfield. Their performance improved further with a significant upgrade to the car in 2020, which included a copy of the Mercedes W10, the championship-winning car from Mercedes in 2019.

Racing Point's 2020 car raised some eyebrows due to its significant resemblance to the Mercedes W10. 2021: In a major rebranding move, Racing Point was renamed Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One Team for the 2021 season. This shift was part of a broader strategy to align the team with the Aston Martin brand, which Lawrence Stroll had also invested in.

The name change marked a return of the iconic Aston Martin name to Formula 1 after decades of absence, and the team hoped to make further progress towards competing at the front of the grid.
