Volkswagen is one of the most iconic and well-known car brands in the world. With a rich history, Volkswagen (VW) has been responsible for some of the most influential and innovative cars ever produced. Volkswagen translates to “people’s car” in German.

The company was founded in 1937 in Germany by the German Labour Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront) under the leadership of Ferdinand Porsche (the founder of Porsche), with the goal of creating a cheap and affordable car for the average German citizen.

The first car produced by Volkswagen was the Volkswagen Beetle (originally the Volkswagen Type 1), designed by Ferdinand Porsche and based on a concept created by Adolf Hitler, who wanted to create a car for the masses.

The Beetle became one of the best-selling cars in history, with over 21 million units produced worldwide between 1938 and 2003. The original “people’s car” and an icon of automotive history.
