Shadow Racing Cars was a British Formula 1 team that competed in the Formula 1 World Championship from 1973 to 1980.

Founded by former driver Don Nichols, the team became known for its innovative car designs and commitment to being a competitive presence in the sport. The Shadow team participated in both the F1 World Championship and other racing series, including Can-Am and IndyCar.

Founder Don Nichols, an American businessman, founded the team under the Shadow name in 1972, originally as a sports car and Can-Am racing project.

Shadow made its Formula 1 debut in 1973 at the Spanish Grand Prix with the Shadow DN1. The car was powered by a Gurney-Weslake V12 engine.

The team struggled with financial issues and team management in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The lack of consistent performance, coupled with a lack of sponsorship and funding, ultimately led to the team’s decline. Don Nichols pulled the plug on the Formula 1 project in 1980, and Shadow Racing ceased its participation in the F1 World Championship.

After leaving Formula 1, Shadow continued to be involved in other forms of motorsport, including IndyCar racing and Can-Am. Despite the team's brief run in Formula 1, they are remembered for their contributions to the sport's development and the distinctive cars they produced.
