Maybach is a prestigious German luxury automobile brand that is synonymous with exclusivity, opulence, and performance.

Founded in 1909 by Wilhelm Maybach and his son Karl Maybach, the brand originally focused on producing high-end luxury vehicles and engines, and it has a rich history of producing some of the world’s most luxurious cars. The origins of Maybach can be traced back to the early 20th century when Wilhelm Maybach, an engineer, and Gottlieb Daimler (the co-founder of Daimler-Benz, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz) began working together.

Wilhelm Maybach was a key figure in the development of early automobile engines, and he later founded Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH in 1909 to manufacture high-performance engines. Initially, Maybach focused on building engines for Zeppelins and other airships, but by 1919, the company began producing luxury cars, with the Maybach W3 being its first automobile. The W3 was a high-performance car with a powerful engine and luxurious features.

In 2002, Mercedes-Benz reintroduced the Maybach brand under the name Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH, intending to revive the spirit of Maybach as a luxury sub-brand to compete with other ultra-luxury brands like Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

In 2013, Mercedes-Benz decided to discontinue the Maybach nameplate as a standalone brand, mainly due to low sales figures and difficulties competing with other high-end luxury brands.
