The Brabham Formula 1 Team was a historic and highly influential team in the world of Formula 1 racing. Founded in 1948 by the Australian driver Jack Brabham and designer Ron Tauranac, the team became one of the most successful and innovative in Formula 1 history, winning multiple Drivers' Championships and Constructors' Championships.
Brabham's legacy in F1 includes major technical breakthroughs, and the team’s success has made it one of the most revered names in motorsport. Brabham made its F1 debut in 1962 with a car designed by Tauranac, the Brabham BT3. Jack Brabham was also the team’s first driver, which laid the foundation for a close association between the driver and the team. The team’s breakthrough moment came in 1966, when Jack Brabham won the Formula 1 World Championship as both the driver and team owner. This achievement made him the first and only driver in F1 history to win the World Championship in a car of his own construction.
Brabham’s greatest success came with its founder, Jack Brabham himself, who won three World Drivers' Championships with the team, in 1959, 1960, and 1966. His first two titles were achieved while driving for other teams, but his third was the result of his leadership of the Brabham team. Jack Brabham team’s final Formula 1 season was in 1992, after which it was sold off and ceased to operate under the Brabham name in Formula 1.
The team did not manage to recapture its former glory after its sale, and the Brabham name was eventually retired from F1 racing.
