Fiat (Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino) is an iconic Italian automaker and one of the oldest car manufacturers in the world. Established in 1899 in Turin, Italy, Fiat has played a crucial role in shaping the automotive industry, particularly in Europe.

Known for producing compact cars, family vehicles, and contributing to automotive innovation, Fiat has a legacy of creating accessible and stylish cars that have resonated with a wide range of consumers globally. The company introduced the Fiat 500 in 1957, one of its most famous and successful models. The small, affordable car made personal transportation available to a broad segment of the population. During this time, Fiat also expanded internationally, acquiring a number of automotive companies, including Lancia (1969) and Alfa Romeo (1986), which allowed Fiat to diversify its offerings and establish a more global presence.

In the 1980s, Fiat faced financial difficulties due to poor market performance and labor strikes. In 2009, Fiat took a controlling stake in Chrysler, forming Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).

In 2014, Fiat officially merged with Chrysler, creating Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), a global automotive giant. FCA allowed Fiat to expand its portfolio of vehicles, including Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler, in addition to its own Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati brands.

In 2021, FCA merged with PSA Group (the parent company of Peugeot, Citroën, and Opel), creating the world’s fourth-largest carmaker, Stellantis. This merger further solidified Fiat’s position within a global automotive empire, with Fiat continuing to focus on affordable vehicles, electric mobility, and urban mobility solutions.
