Scania is a renowned Swedish manufacturer that specializes in heavy-duty vehicles, including trucks, buses, and engines.

The company, founded in 1891, has established itself as one of the world’s leading producers of commercial vehicles, particularly known for its innovative designs, high-performance engines, and commitment to environmental sustainability.

Scania is part of the Volkswagen Group and has a strong presence in Europe, South America, and Asia, producing a wide range of products tailored for different transport and logistics needs.

Scania was established in 1891 in Sundsvall, Sweden, as Vagnfabriks Aktiebolaget Scania. The company initially focused on producing railway carriages and motor vehicles but eventually expanded to trucks and engines as demand for motorized vehicles grew in the early 20th century.

In 1911, Scania merged with Vabis, a Swedish car manufacturer, to form Scania-Vabis. This merger helped the company expand its product offerings and solidified its place in the commercial vehicle market.

Scania has embraced connectivity and telematics in its vehicles, allowing fleet operators to track their vehicles in real-time, manage fuel consumption, and monitor the health of their vehicles remotely. This helps improve the efficiency and safety of fleets.

In 2008, Volkswagen Group (VW) acquired a controlling stake in Scania, making it a subsidiary of the German automaker. This partnership has helped both companies leverage each other’s expertise in manufacturing and technology.

Volkswagen Group also owns MAN, another major commercial vehicle manufacturer, which has helped the group create synergies between the two brands while maintaining their individual identities.
