Model Cars - AC Cobra
The AC Cobra, also known as the Shelby Cobra, is an iconic sports car that combines British engineering with American muscle. It was initially designed by the British manufacturer AC Cars and then famously modified by American automotive legend Carroll Shelby.
In 1961, Carroll Shelby, a former race car driver and a successful automotive entrepreneur, was approached by AC Cars to help modify their car by adding an American V8 engine. The game-changer came when Shelby convinced Ford to supply the Cobra with a 4.2-liter V8 engine, which was later replaced by the more powerful 427-cubic inch V8 engine.
The large V8 engines transformed the Cobra into a lightweight, high-performance sports car that could outrun many of its competitors. The AC Cobra 427 was the most famous and powerful version of the Cobra, produced between 1965 and 1967. It was fitted with the 427 V8 engine, making it one of the most potent cars of its time.
