Aprilia is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer that has a rich history. Founded in 1945 by Ivano Beggio, the company has earned a reputation for producing innovative and high-performance motorcycles, including road bikes, scooters, and racing machines. Over the years, Aprilia has built a strong presence in various forms of motorsport, including MotoGP, World Superbike, and Motocross.
Aprilia was established in 1945 by Ivano Beggio in Noale, Italy. Originally, Aprilia started as a bicycle manufacturer before transitioning into motorcycles in 1968.
Aprilia's motorsport involvement began in 1975 with the brand's entry into off-road racing, specifically motocross and enduro events. This early commitment to racing played a key role in developing the technology and reputation that would shape the brand in the years to come.
MotoGP: Aprilia has also had a presence in MotoGP, the premier class of motorcycle road racing. The company entered the MotoGP championship in the 1990s and has since been competitive in the lower classes. In more recent years, Aprilia has competed in the MotoGP class with their own factory team, developing motorcycles such as the Aprilia RS-GP.
In 2004, Aprilia was acquired by the Piaggio Group, one of the largest manufacturers of motorcycles and scooters in the world. This allowed Aprilia to leverage Piaggio’s global distribution network and further expand its production and technological capabilities.
Aprilia is also working on developing electric motorcycles, in line with the growing trend of electric mobility in the motorcycle industry. The Aprilia eSR1 is a step in this direction, showcasing the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
